The Veterans Services Office at Prince George’s Community College (PGCC) helps military veterans and the dependents of disabled or deceased veterans apply for educational benefits. The office also helps with tutoring and academic and career counseling.

Although the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) must determine an individual’s eligibility for benefits, the PGCC Veterans Services Office provides guidance and the appropriate applications for educational benefits.

Veterans Services is responsible for certifying veteran enrollment status to the VA, which is how beneficiaries are paid. The VA does not cover the cost of continuing education courses, audited courses, or courses that do not count toward an individual’s course of study.

Prince George’s Community College is approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Maryland Higher Education Commission.

Prince George’s County of Office of Veterans Affairs:

  • Helps veterans and surviving spouses pursue and apply for eligible VA benefits

  • Provides employment, training, and entrepreneurial advice, resources, and assistance.

  • Addresses and provides referral services for healthcare, education, housing, homelessness, and family needs

  • Offers resources to address depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the psychological effects of military sexual trauma (MST).

  • Offers various resources through VA and community-based organizations.

The Prince George’s Veterans Court Program is a supervised, voluntary, comprehensive and sanction based treatment program. The program is 12-months. Veterans entering the judicial system with a misdemeanor or felony level offense with prosecutorial consent, documented substance abuse dependency and/or mental issues are its focus. Upon acceptance, participants are required to attend regular court hearings before a Presiding Judge, maintain curfew, participate in substance abuse treatment, undergo frequent drug testing as well as Post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) counseling and mental health services, if needed. The judge leads the team's efforts focusing on sobriety, recovery and accountability as primary goals. The Veterans Court team insures the implementation of these goals for each participant.
